NB NOW Code of Conduct | Editorial Standards & Ethics

Code of Conduct

Standards for our team, contributors, and community.

Editorial Integrity

The foundation of journalism is truth. Every member of the NB NOW team — staff, freelancers, and contributors — is expected to uphold the highest standards of accuracy, fairness, and verification in their work.

We do not publish unverified claims. We do not misrepresent sources. We do not distort facts to fit a narrative. These are not aspirations — they are requirements.

Any individual who knowingly publishes false or misleading information, or who engages in plagiarism, fabrication, or deception, will be removed from the organization immediately.

Respect and Inclusion

NB NOW is committed to maintaining a professional environment where all individuals are treated with dignity and respect, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion, or background.

Harassment, discrimination, intimidation, or exclusion of any kind is not tolerated. This applies to all interactions — internal team communications, relationships with sources, community engagement, and public-facing work.

Journalism requires difficult conversations and the examination of uncomfortable subjects. That work must be conducted with professionalism, not cruelty. Disagreement is expected. Disrespect is not.

Community Behavior

NB NOW operates in public spaces — online platforms, comment sections, social media, events, and forums. In all of these contexts, we expect participants to engage responsibly.

  • Do not engage in personal attacks, threats, or abusive language.
  • Do not share false information, spam, or manipulated content.
  • Do not violate the privacy of individuals by sharing personal information without consent.
  • Do not impersonate journalists, editors, or other individuals.

Moderation decisions are made by NB NOW editorial staff and are final. Repeated violations will result in removal from community spaces.

Contributor Guidelines

Freelancers, guest writers, and external contributors are held to the same editorial and ethical standards as staff members. Contributions must meet NB NOW's verification requirements before publication.

  • All factual claims must be independently verified and documented.
  • Sources must be identified clearly unless anonymity has been approved by an editor.
  • Contributors must disclose any conflicts of interest or personal connections to the subject matter.
  • Plagiarism, fabrication, or misrepresentation will result in immediate termination of the relationship.

Questions about editorial standards or submission guidelines should be directed to contributors@nbnow.com.

Enforcement

Violations of this Code of Conduct are taken seriously. All reports are reviewed by senior editorial leadership and, when appropriate, escalated to the editor-in-chief.

Enforcement actions may include warnings, suspension of privileges, removal from projects, termination of contributor agreements, or permanent exclusion from NB NOW spaces.

To report a violation, contact conduct@nbnow.com. All reports are treated confidentially and reviewed within 48 hours.

This Code of Conduct is reviewed annually and updated as necessary. Standards are enforced consistently, without exception.
