“Tonight sources linked to the Judiciary branch confirmed to televised news stations that the original files of the investigation into the murder of prominent environmentalist Berta Caceres has been stolen from a judge who had planned to study them at home for the sake of making a decision about the appeal filed by lawyers who had pledged to defend the individuals accused of murdering Mrs. Caceres.
It has also been confirmed that a team from the Technical Agency of Criminal Investigation (ATIC) led by Ricardo Castro (who is the director of ATIC) has gone to the Supreme Court to begin the investigation into the theft of the records and the car used by the magistrate.
The theft occurred when Mrs. Ramos was leaving her work. She was driving along the road to the Jose Cecilio del Valle University when she was cut off by two individuals and forced to stop. They approached her and signaled for her to lower the windows of the driver's seat, threatening her with a firearm. The files contacted information about the alleged participants in the murder of Mrs. Caceres who are: Douglas Bustillo, Mariano Chavez, Sergio Orellana, Edilson Mesa, and his brother Emerson Mesa.
Due to the implications of the crime and the repercussions it has had on Honduras the investigation and judicial proceedings tied to it have been assigned a tribunal with national jurisdiction."
